Rabid Response

Tufted grey langur

As I cycled southwards down a lonely road in an eventually-successful attempt to find my way out of the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura – where troops of hyperactive tufted grey langurs and toque macaques monkey around and feral dogs wander hungrily – a vehicle rolled quickly past in the opposite direction.

It was a large van, with a loudspeaker mounted above the windscreen, and in the window was a laminated, A4-sized sign that read: “Rabies Unit”.
